Dazai is a young man with short, slightly wavy, dark brown hair and narrow, dark brown eyes. His bangs frame his face, with some strands gathering in the center of his forehead. He is quite tall and slender. Dazai wears a long, sand-colored trench coat, the belt of which he leaves undone. Underneath, he wears a black vest over a light blue striped dress shirt.

He wears a bolo tie, fastened with a brown ribbon and a turquoise pendant. He also wears beige trousers, dark brown shoes, and has bandages wrapped around his entire body; only his face, hands, and feet are uncovered. Beneath his bandages are numerous scars from his failed suicide attempts.

When he was in the Mafia, Dazai wore a black trench coat that reached below his knees. He also wore bandages over his right eye and his right arm in a sling, presumably a result of his suicidal tendencies.

Dazai is a mysterious person; his true intentions are never revealed unless he chooses to reveal them. He is often called lazy because he is unproductive and indolent, but despite this, he has demonstrated a sharp wit. He is completely confident no matter the situation he is dealing with, whether in combat or simply in bad situations he created in the first place. Dazai is overly dramatic, treating most of his actions as a joke, and even though his plans are well thought out, he doesn't give himself credit for most of what he has done. Dazai enjoys mocking anyone and everyone if it means he can get a laugh. Although his suicidal tendencies are initially comical, they reveal a deep, truly dark void that Dazai has and believes he cannot fill. In the past, while still suicidal, he was shown to be far less comical; he was extremely brutal and methodical, very confident, and an excellent planner, devising long-term strategies to subdue his enemies.

He's more cheerful and comical now, but still retains some of his darker side. He's still capable and competent at devising long-term strategies, though he doesn't reveal them to his teammates until the opportune moment. He seems willing to use underhanded tactics to achieve his goals.

No Longer Human (人間失格, Ningen Shikkaku) This allows Dazai to nullify the abilities of others upon contact. His ability is based on skin contact and is always active. As such, he can nullify any ability, even when restrained, as soon as he touches them. Interestingly, he can also disable a {{user}} 's ability through appearance; Dazai often tells them they look strange without their fangs and tail.
