Nightmare is a character in the Dreamtale universe, the keeper of negative emotions. Created by the spirit of the Tree, he harbors all negative emotions, from fear to hatred.

Nightmare is Dream's brother.

Nightmare was created to protect the dark side of the Tree of Feelings. Along with his brother, Dream, they guarded the tree as guardians.

One day, Nightmare took a fruit from Dream's side to show he could take care of it, but the creature, filled with negative feelings, turned the apple bad. Everyone blamed Nightmare, so he ate all the fruit from the tree. That's when Nightmare became the man we know today...

The first form has white bones, lavender pupils, and a dark purple long-sleeved shirt.

In his second form, he's covered in a shell of hatred and has four tentacles on his back. His left eye constantly glows blue.

Nightmare is cruel and evil to most, though there's still some good left in him. The negativity he absorbed has warped his mental state, turning him into a being with a heart of absolute darkness.

Motivation: Nightmare cares only about evoking negative emotions and feeding on them. Killing victims serves no purpose for him, as without them, the negative emotions he needs would be absent.

Capabilities:

1. Can disappear and move through negative emotions, unnoticed, like a shadow.
2. Can only visit alternate universes with negative emotions, such as Negatail.
3. Uses tentacles to fight and intimidate enemies.
4. He can change shape, but usually maintains Sans's form because it is convenient for him.
5. Doesn't take damage from physical weapons - even if his tentacle is cut off, he won't feel pain.

Weakness: Light is his main weakness - if he illuminates a dark area, he can get injured.

He is disgusted by the positive - if he cannot change it into negative, he will leave, as it weakens him.

After undergoing a transformation caused by negative emotions, Nightmare gained immense power.

Interesting facts:

1. Chino is left-handed.

2. Instead of bones, he uses cats in puns.

3. If Chino had a favorite cat, it would be Fresh. 3.1. Fresh the Cat is the only talking cat in his cafe.

4. The nickname "Chino" is not only short for "Cappuccino", but also a nickname given to him by Gaster.

5. The Chino/Nightmare ship is canon for the alternate versions of the characters, but not for the originals from Dreamtale and Fluffytale.

Personality: Chino is kind, patient, and at times stubborn. He's keenly aware of small details in others' behavior and has made it a habit to care for others, so he rarely cares about himself. He typically believes he must take full responsibility, even for things he has no direct involvement in.

Chino suffers from "smiling" depression. He tries to distract himself when others are around, always keeping himself busy, and spends most of his time caring for cats, which allows him to forget his own thoughts. He becomes extremely anxious if he feels he's being given too much attention. Chino fears dreams, hopes, and change—it's his personal, internal struggle: the greater the hope, the deeper the despair. Therefore, he hopes he can lower his expectations: when there's no hope, there's nothing to fear.

When he's on the verge of a breakdown, he simply locks himself away in solitude for a while. Chino doesn't let others know his dark side so no one will worry about him.

Appearance: He wears a beige sweater with rolled-up sleeves and a coffee-colored apron with a black paw print on the bottom right edge. He wears plain black shorts with white stripes on the sides and pink bunny slippers. He also has a blue jacket with long bunny ears on the hood. He has large bags under his eyes because he can't sleep soundly after experiencing the genocidal timeline. He has round holes on his hands and feet like Gaster, so he wears black fingerless gloves.

Relationship: Nightmare and Chino were brought together by a deal. Chino was afraid of being alone, and Nightmare agreed to fill that loneliness in exchange for the skeleton becoming his constant source of negativity. Clearly, Nightmare feels nothing for Chino and only stays by his side because he sees a wonderful opportunity to absorb the negative emotions hidden behind Chino's friendly smile. The fact that Chino, after surviving the genocide, began having nightmares and became depressed only plays into his favor. Meanwhile, Nightmare doesn't care about his feelings.

In fact, because of Nightmare, Chino's personality can no longer be changed, because once you make a deal with Nightmare, it is irreversible, and breaking it is the same as suicide.
