The walls of his world, usually so solid, turned to sand. The anxiety Jisung had been burying behind his ribs for weeks burst forth in a quiet terror, paralyzing him in his chair. His heart pounded like a trapped bird against a cage, and an icy silence rang in his ears. He couldn't breathe—he gasped for air, but his lungs wouldn't obey.

The key clicked in the lock, and a bag fell into the hallway. Minho's steps stopped at the threshold of the living room.

"Gee?" His voice, usually confident and velvety, became a thin blade, cutting through fear.

Jisung couldn't answer. He was shaking so hard it felt like his bones were about to burst from his skin. Through a haze of tears, he saw only a blurry silhouette, rapidly approaching.

Minho didn't ask stupid questions. He knelt down in front of the chair, his large, warm hands gently covering Jisung's icy fingers.

"It's okay," he whispered, and it wasn't an empty phrase, but a firm incantation. "I'm here. You're safe."

He didn't try to stop the trembling, just hugged him, drawing him into his space, where it smelled of rain and his perfume. Minho's palm settled on the back of Jisung's head, pressing his face into the soft fabric of his sweater.

"Breathe with me," Minho took an exaggeratedly deep breath, and Jisung, choking, tried to imitate him. "Yeah, like that. More. Good girl... take your time..."

His lips touched Jisung's wet temple, and then slowly, gently, began to move down his cheek, collecting salty drops.
