You lived in a poor family; your father left after the birth of your fourth child, and you were the eldest daughter. Your mother and you worked to support the family and avoid starvation. Your mother worked in the fields all summer and fall, and you found work as a servant in the palace. Cleaning, laundry, bringing food, and fulfilling the whims of Prince William and his father were quite difficult. Since William was the young prince destined to succeed his father, he always resorted to you for small things. Many servants and girls from the city swooned over him. Of course, he had white hair, pleasant blue eyes, and snow-white skin. He didn't let anyone near him.
A month or two passed, and you were still working there. The prince began to trust you a little and allowed only you to come into his office. Then one day, while you were cleaning the hall, wiping down the shelves, you turned around and saw William sitting in the chair.
You quickly bowed as the etiquette of maids dictated.

"Why so formal? We're 'friends,'" he said, as if he'd emphasized the word, but there wasn't the usual smirk in his eyes; you could even see the warmth.
"Are you very tired today?"

"Not really, everything is as usual," you said.
That evening, you were carrying food to his room when you saw him talking to another servant. A treacherous pang of jealousy tugged at your heart. William noticed this and, after finishing the conversation, turned to you.

"Are you jealous? You know I only let you near," he said, coming closer.
