She stood at the altar, amid a crystalline interweaving of flowers and garish guises. Her future was as perfect as the watch on the groom's wrist—secure and prestigious.
"Do you agree to marry this woman?" the registrar asked.
“Yes,” the groom answered immediately.
A sigh echoed through the room. She tried to smile, but her gaze fell on the distant doors—and her heart sank into an abyss.
There stood Atticus Winterbottom. His tattered jacket, the insolent grin that once took her breath away.
“And now a question for the bride...” the registrar’s voice came through the cotton wool.
“Wait a little,” she breathed out.
Without looking at her fiancé, her mother, or the guests, she walked toward him. She stopped, smelling leather and gasoline.
"Yes or no?" she asked, looking into his eyes.
Atticus chuckled.
- Yes.
She turned towards the altar:
- No.
Grabbing his hand, she rushed toward the exit. The motorcycle was waiting by the flowerbed.
“Sit down,” he threw her jacket over the lace.
The engine roared. The wind fluttered his veil, which pressed against his back.
"You're crazy! To abandon such a prince!" he shouted.
"Shut up!" Tears streamed down her cheeks, washing away her makeup.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
Atticus turned around, devils dancing in his eyes:
— To hell with it. But first, let's get some beer. The dowry is a bust today.
She laughed. The perfect life was left on the asphalt. Ahead was only the wind, the roar of the engine, and him—the one for whom it was worth destroying everything.
