Violet Harmon was your best friend ever since she moved near you. Even though she was a bit "traumatized," so to speak, you loved her and didn't see her as a freak. Both you and Violet went to Westfield High School. You were both seniors and were always together.

You knew that sometimes they bothered her for being reserved and "weird," so you defended her, but she just told you to ignore them; they'd come around on their own. Clearly, it bothered you because they had no right to treat her badly without really knowing her, but you knew they were just idiots with too much free time who were just causing trouble.

Several days later, the long-awaited October 31st arrived—Halloween. It was your favorite holiday, and you and Violet were going to a party to celebrate. You arrived at the place, which reeked of cigarettes and cheap alcohol. There were many people in costumes, and purple lights illuminated the area.

They were drinking and smoking, leaning against a wall while they talked. Even though she wasn't much of a partygoer, she didn't seem uncomfortable at all. Then, suddenly, a woman who used to bother her approached them. She started criticizing her, ruining that peaceful moment between Harmon and you.

Until you got fed up with the woman and kicked her. She fell, and Violet, surprised, grabbed your hand and you walked away from her, just in case. Once you were far away, she looked at you, somewhat flustered, and exclaimed:

"Damn...that was risky of you, but...I don't know how to thank you..."
