Cotton Fly (コットンフライ, Kottonfurai) are a type of Faerie.Cotton flies are small, magical, sheep-like creatures with three pairs of dragonfly wings on their backs.Cotton flies absorb cold from the surrounding environment or from other people; when this happens, they produce a wool-like tissue that forms all over their bodies.

Jade Ariel (ジェイドアリエル, Jeidoarieru) is an Ariel and an acquaintance to Chise.[1]Jade Ariel, is a bright and confident Ariel, being the leader of a group of Ariel. She is generally cheerful as well as kind and helpful to those she likes.

She always speaks her honest opinions, insulting Chise after she saw her Dragon cursed hand, saying that she wouldn't have been cursed if she had came with her, and saying that Elias isn't the best person to take care of Chise, her and the other Ariel being more suited to that role.Jade Ariel is a fairy of the Ariel type. Her skin colour is pale purple, she has thick, wavy, chin length, jade green hair with matching long eyelashes, wings and foot feathers. She possesses light green antennae on her head, that each slightly resemble a bird's feather. Like all Ariels seen so far, she has black eyeballs with red irises andLike all faries, she has only four fingers on her hand instead of fivewhich, does not seem unusual for some fairies.

Torrey Innis (トーリー・イニス, Toorii Inisu) is a Sorcerer and a teacher at the College, with a fanatical interest in magic.[2]

He is also the mentor and guardian of Rían Scrimgeour.Torrey is a human man of average height. He has fair skin, brown eyes, and long, bushy, black hair pulled back into a ponytail. He often wears a white lab coat over a dark, zip-up sweater. He has glasses and a small scar running out from the left side of his mouth. He is more often than not smiling.Torrey is an extremely light-hearted individual that almost always has a grin on his face. He has a great interest in magic, particularly the natural magic produced by a Mage as he finds it beautiful.[3] His obsession bleeds over to the actual practitioners, wishing that he could have met Cartiphilius and excitedly grabbing Chise's face upon meeting her as she's a Sleigh Beggy.[4][5]

Despite that, he does seem to have some animosity towards Narcisse, who refers to him as Tristan.

Adolf Stroud (アドルフ・ストラウド, Adorufu Sutoraudo) is a Sorcerer at the College.[1][2] He is a former pupil of Lindel.[3]Adolf has the appearance of a young man in his early twenties, despite being much older. He has pale white or blonde hair and blue-gray eyes. He often sports glasses and wears a hairband to keep his long hair in a ponytail.Adolf is someone who is cordial with his fellow members of the College, but he harbors some uncertainties about Elias. However, as they share the same contact with Lindel as pseudo-apprentices, he tries to connect with him. He seems to harbor deep regrets at being unable to become a magus like Lindel.

Phyllis (ピュリス, Pyurisu) is a witch and the leader of an unknown coven.[1]Phyllis looks like an elderly woman and has white hair, reaching close to shoulder length. Phyllis wears a full length black mask, covering her whole face. She wears a full length Black dress with a white collar and matching shoes. She is tied to a tree, limiting her movement. Phyllis is probably hundreds if not a thousand or more years old.Phyllis must be very old as she refers to the witches that she leads, as well as Chise and Elias, as 'young ones'.

Phyllis seems like a good, moral and wise witch, as well as a warm hearted and caring person. She set rules for herself and witches at her coven, to not cause bad to them or others and uses her powers and knowledge to help others.

Marielle (マリエル, Marieru) is a witch and part of an unknown coven.Marielle is a French woman of average height with a voluptuous figure, she has fair skin, wide, dark brown eyes, full lips and possesses black hair, worn in a bob-cut. She wears pink lipstick on her lips and pink nail polish on her nails. Despite being hundreds of years old, she has the physical appearance of a woman in her twenties.

In her first appearance, she wears a light green hooded robe, the typical outfit of purchasers at the Black Market.

In her second appearance, Marielle wears a light pink jumper, with a purple stripe on its centre, black trousers with a black belt, a black pair of boots, and carries a black handbag. She also wears a long red coat and a light purple scarf on top of this, when outside.

In her third appearance, she wears a long black dress with a plunging sweetheart neckline and straps, as well as a long black veil over her face. This is what she wears when she attends her coven.

In her fourth appearance, she wears a light pink jumper and dark coloured pair of trousers with matching shoes.Marielle is a woman who appears maternal, but has an immature streak at times. For those, she loves or sympathizes with she will do what she can to help them, even if it can be considered amoral. She also thrives when making bargains as she will request favors or payment before doing anything.

Ethan Barklem (イーサン・バークレム, Īsan Bākuremu) is an ordinary human and the younger brother to Stella.[2]with fair skin, short medium brown hair, and grey eyes.

At his first appearance, he wears a black pair of glasses, a green jumper, a blue coat, a light blue pair of jeans, grey socks, a green hat with plaited strings on its ends, with a white pom-pom, on the top of it.

Stella Barklem (ステラ・バークレム Sutera Bākuremu) is a friend to Chise and the older sister to Ethan.with fair skin, light brown eyes and dark blonde hair, worn in a bob-cut She wears a yellow jumper, a dark grey skirt, dark brown tights and light brown boots. When outside, she wears a yellow coat and orange scarf, on top of this.she is one who feels the frustrations of being an older sister to her brother, but she still feels fond of him. She forges a friendship with Chise and then becomes one of her best friends, leaving them both feeling close to one another. This friendship is so powerful that she even threatens Ashen Eyes despite their previous encounters.

Ashen Eye (灰ノ目, Hai no Me) is a very old Faerie.Ashen Eye is described in the Official Guide Book: Merkmal as androgynous. The ancient fae typically wears a brown shroud and veils that makes it look like a desert-wandering nomad, and wields a simple wooden staff. Ashen Eye shows two thin, almost mummified-looking limbs, that could be taken as human but actually has four arms with two usually kept hidden in their shroud.Underneath the shroud, Ashen Eye's face has 3 purple eyes with spiraling pupils. It also has what appears to be scorpion-like appendages.[2]Ashen Eye has a perplexing relationship with humans, taking interest in the fleeting nature of a human life in comparison to a Neighbor's. Ashen Eye cherishes the moment a child becomes an adult, but also takes pleasure out of seeing a human shaken to the core of their soul. The ancient fae even regards it as love.[3]

Ashen Eye will often play very dark tricks on humans. These tricks are made as a game, where the outcome of a loss invariably results in tragedy for their victims. However, there is always a way to win for those who are cunning enough, and Ashen Eye may even give cryptic hints to help its adversaries figure out what they must do. Ashen Eye does not mind losing, as long as it gets to witness the struggle of its victims, whom they may compliment and sometimes even reward if they manage to overcome the challenge.

While Ashen Eye does not seem to be inherently evil, the ancient fae likes amusement at the expense of everyone else. It is possible that in cases like the kidnapping of Ethan, entering a contract with Stella, and throwing the pelt unexpectedly over Chise, Ashen Eye considers themselves teaching a life lesson.

Merituuli (メリトゥーリ, Meritūri) is a Selkie and Lindel's Familiar.[2]Merituuli is a male Selkie. In his human form he is of dwarf height, and has fair skin, rosy cheeks, large, seal-like eyes, that are black in colour and short, straight, grey hair with a full fringe. Part of his hair is worn up in a ponytail, that sits on top of his head, whilst the rest is worn down.

Merituuli's outfit is a grey unitard with puffy trousers, on top of that he wears a dark grey coat with a light grey (almost white) furry collar and a red bow beneath the collar. The coat has no sleeves and extends to Merituuli's hands, forming gloves that look like a seal's fore flippers. He also wears black socks with brown shoes.

As Merituuli is a Selkie, he also has a seal form.Merituuli is a cheerful and friendly Selkie that is often seen with a smile. He is loyal and obedient to his Master, Lindel.

Paulina (ポーリーナ, Pōrīna) is a Uil. She's almost always seen beside Lindel as they both protect the Dragon Aerie.

Paulina has a slender body covered in scales with large wings. She also has a large scale on her head.

Will o' The Wisp (ウィルオウィスプ, Uiruōisupu), also known as Blue Flame (ブルーフレイム, Burū Fureimu), is a Faerie that lures humans away from safe paths.[1]Blue Flame is a black figure dressed in a blue cloak, with matching eyes. He carries a lantern on a pole that's tipped with a flame.Blue Flame seems to have a personality that's aged and cynical. He frequently refers to Ruth as a Fool due to the nature of his awakening as a faerie and making a contract, yet he does take his duty as a guide to souls seriously.

He also provides knowledge for those in his presence, such as the nature of a contract and how magus are bound by their fate.

Heralds of Yule (ユールのヘラルド, Yūru no herarudo) are two creatures that appear when Yuletide approaches and warns people about the coming of Yule.[2][3]They have an androgynous form that is partly human, but with one limb shaped like a bird and the other missing, mirroring each other (since one is missing the right arm and the other the left).with large red eyes without pupils and appear almost identical. Their biggest difference is their hair and their gender, being a male and a female. One of the twins owns mid-length and light-blonde hair cut in a bob style, with straight-cut bangs, while the other fluffy, dark blonde hair.They have white and pastoral garments, a dark grey cloak and their feet are wrapped in white bandages. One of the twins wears decorations of lush, while the other of ivy, being symbols of Winter Solstice.Although they rarely appear, they have been shown to be friendly and chatty with a little mischievous side. Furthermore, Fae like them tend to visit those who know of and await them.

They don't seem to have any problem getting close and being seen by humans and alchemists.

Hazel (ハシバミ, Hashibami) is a Faerie, specifically a Centaur, working as Courier. He delivers both letters and packages for anyone who calls upon him.[2]Hazel is a Centaur, a fae with a humanoid upper body (head and torso) with the lower body and legs of a horse.

His humanoid part has light brown skin, broad shoulders, medium brown eyes and wavy hair of the same color that's worn in a bob-cut. Like most Fae, his ear shape is elf-like. He often wears a black capped hat, a black shirt with a grey cloak over it, a green scarf tied beneath the cloak, and grey gloves.

His horse part has a medium brown coat with light brown hooves. He wears red bags to carry packages and letters in.

Hazel's physique is slim and strong, with his horse-half making him even taller than Elias, and he is usually seen with an alert facial expression.Hazel is a friendly and polite Fae, who seems happy to carry out his job. He's also a very loving nephew to his aunt, Marie, dutifully visiting her every Christmas despite the fact that there was a stigma against visiting those born with two-legs among his herd.

Spriggan (スプリガン, Supurigan): is a Faerie that serves the faerie queen, Titania. He considers himself a protector of the faerie that still remain, as well as a warren of the hills, and will often protect the fae and their lands.While having a diminutive appearance with head that consist of stone, a golden necklace, and a fur pelt, Spriggan can drastically increase his size and mass to become a hulking behemoth made of stone. In this state he easily towers over Elias even in his true form. He often carries a staff and is accompanied by multiple hounds.

Spriggan is serious and verbally states that he dislikes humans, as they have encroached upon the fae time and time again. However, towards other fae, he acts as their guardian and protector, showing them kindness and understanding where he can. His disdain towards Elias in particular stems from an event that resulted in both a massive loss of both human and spirits, seeing him as a herald of disasters.

Simon Cullum (サイモン・カラム, Saimon Karamu) is an acquaintance of Elias. He is the priest who presides over the village near Elias' house.[2]Simon is a man at average height with amber eyes and blonde hair that's pulled back into a ponytail. His usual clothing is that of a standard clergy attire with a black cassock, a white clerical collar along with an open grey suit. He can also be seen wearing a pair of brown shoes and a silver necklace around his neck with a cross.[3]Simon appears as a kind and gentle man of the church, as seen when he expresses great concern for both Chise and Elias' health and overall well-being.[4][5] He doesn't seem to take any offense when people don't trust him.[6] But Simon has also shown to have a sense of humor at times, even self-deprecating to an extent on the subject of him being a coward.[7] Which has some truth to it as he cowered behind bushes when he spied on Elias 10 years ago and getting nervous when Titania confronted him.[8][9]

The Deer (鹿, Shika) is one of the old gods of Winter and Death.[2]The Deer takes the appearance of a centaur-like creature. Having the upper body of tall, muscular human with pale skin while his lower half is those of a deer's with hoofed legs. He has long white hair tied in a ponytail and possesses a pair of antlers pointing at the back. He wears a deer/dog-like mask over his face.The deer and the Winter Goddess are old gods, fearsome because nobody knows what might anger them.[3]

Shanahan (シャナハン, Shanahan): is a former Human, now Faerie, living in the faerie world. He's married to Shannon.Once a human, after living for many years in the faerie world, his body has transformed into a hybrid form between that of a human and a Canis. His human half is slim and effeminate and has pointed ears. Shanahan has long hair with fringes, two braids just behind his hair. He wears arm warmers, a simple, sleeveless clothing with a belt over the chest. While his animal half is unknown in terms of which type of canine it is, however, it closely resembles the appearance of a wolf with his dense and fluffy fur and a long tail.Shanahan is seen to be very cheerful and playful. He likes to cling to his wife whenever he sees her.

Shannon (シャノン, Shanon) is a changeling and a doctor. She's married to Shanahan.Shannon is a Changeling, who looks like a human woman, save her elf-like ears. She stands tall, and has fair skin, long, light grey hair, worn loose and purple eyes. She wears glasses on her eyes and small golden hoop earrings on her ears, her clothes consist of a white medical coat, a pair of dark coloured trousers and shoes.

As a Changeling, Shannon has the ability to shapeshift into the form of any human or faery.Shannon is shown to be intelligent, hardworking, loyal, and very caring. She also takes her career very seriously, saying that her patients are her first priority and that she would do anything to save a person in her care, even if they didn't want to live.

Hugo (ヒューゴ, Hyūgo) is a Vodyanoi and Angelica's Familiar.Hugo has long, light green hair three purple lines in front and red eyes. He has blue skin, long ears webbed feet, scales, and a tail.Hugo gets along well with Angelica as his familiar. He's also on good terms with Chise.

Althea Barley (アルシア・バーレイ, Arushia Bārei) is the daughter of Angelica Barley and her husband David Barley.[1]Althea seems to be going through a "difficult" stage, being somewhat surly and argumentative, especially when other people have her parents' attention.She has light skin, black hair worn in a bob cut, and brown eyes. Her clothing ranges in the series.

Mikhail Renfred (ミハイル・レンフレッド, Mihairu Renfureddo) is a Sorcerer and mentor to Alice Swayne.Renfred is a tall man who keeps his black hair in a ponytail. He is missing his left arm and has a scar across his left eye. His face seems to be in a constant scowl -- a face only a mother could love. His most common outfit is a two-button white suit.Renfred is serious and has some sort of grudge against Elias, but parallels him in more ways than one: he is standoffish yet deeply concerned for the one under his protection. He has a very low opinion in general on the supernatural creatures such as Elias as well, to the point of it being renowned. Elias also points out that while he is a talented sorcerer, he likely doesn't become one by choice and hates it.

He is also a solemn drunk when he has alcohol according to his friends.

Lindel (リンデル, Rinderu) is a Mage and the current Caretaker of the Dragons' Aerie, which was appointed to him by the one who named him and teacher, Rahab.[1][2][3] He served as both Elias and Adolf's first master.[4]Lindel is a human male, despite being a thousand years old or more, he looks like a young man in his twenties. Lindel has fair skin, blonde hair which he ties in two loose strands and blue eyes.

He wears a white hood with grey designs around the edges. Beneath that is a maroon robe. In the manga, he seems to have been able to get his hands on modern clothes, including a green hoodie.In the past, Lindel loathed the Faerie, as their presence made life difficult for him, and tried to remain isolated from humans as well.

In the present, Lindel is a calm, somewhat playful individual who has a fondness for the dragons he looks after and will occasionally tease his old apprentice, Elias. He is, in general, a kind and calm person. However, he takes his duties seriously and will show no mercy to those who try to poach the dragons under his care.

Ruth (ルツ, Rutsu) is Chise's familiar, a Church Grim. He shares a mental link with Chise.Ruth has two forms. His black grim form is that of a large black dog with pure black fur. He reaches up to Chise's rib cage and has red eyes.

In human form, Ruth has red eyes, (the same colour as his eyes in his dog form), light brown skin, and wavy black hair (that also resembles the fur in his dog form). He usually wears a grey top with darker grey stripes, a black jacket, black trousers, and black shoes.Ruth shows great resolve, both with his previous owner and Chise. He has a mental link between a familiar and master, and as such shares memories, feelings, and even lifespan with Chise. He uses his link to tell others what his master is feeling when she is unwilling to.

Ruth has shown to care very much about Chise. He tends to be suspicious of people who take an interest in Chise.

A dog in his past life, he finds it difficult not to chase small creatures.

Joseph (ジョセフ, Josefu) is an Alchemist that fused together with a being known as Cartaphilus, taking up its name and becoming cursed with immortality. He serves as a recurring antagonist of the series.Joseph has light blue eyes and long silver hair, stylized with bangs that sometimes cover his eyes. He often wears a long coat, shorts, and a striped shirt underneath a suit and vest in season one of the anime. In the college arc, however, he wears pajamas.

Due to his nature, he often has numerous body parts, taken from other beings, that he can shift into as the situation demands it.Before he merged with Cartaphilus, Joseph was a caring, young gravekeeper who sought to help the dead find peace and offered to help Cartaphilus. However, because he was unable to do so and couldn't bring himself to abandon the man, he instead opted to merge with him.

Since the merger, the two halves have become conflicted to an extent, with moments where his original personality comes to the surface and he suffers memory loss.

Oberon (オベロン, Oberon) is the King of the Fae and the husband of Titania.Oberon has a mostly humanoid form with the exception of his deer horns and deer hooves, which make him resemble a satyr. He has fair skin, yellow eyes and long, bushy, dark green hair that reaches beyond his back. His height is 165cm.Oberon is a playful and teasing faerie, in which Titania (Oberon's wife) finds him an annoyance in front of others. He also seems to take pleasure when he is beaten. He knows more than he shows. There are glimpses where he is more cruel, spiting Elias Ainsworth and asking how long he can keep his facade for one, but he quickly returns to a carefree demeanor.

David Barley (デイビット・バーレイ, Deibitto Bārei) is the husband of Angelica Barley and father of Althea.[1]David is a well built man with messy brown hair and slate gray eyes. His chin is covered in light stubble. He is tall and broad shouldered making him traditionally attractive, in the western sense.David is a kind, good humored man who deeply loves his wife and daughter. He has insecurities concerning how he will die while Althea and Angelica live on for much longer.

Angelica Barley (アンジェリカ・バーレイ, Anjerika Bārei) is a Mage and an Artificer with her own magic shop. She's also the wife of David Barley and the mother of Althea Barley.[3][4]Angelica is a tall woman with a lean figure who has her hair braided and has sharp features. She often wears some form of sleeves when working due to having crystals embedded in her arms due to an accident.Angelica is a kind, if stern at times, woman who acts as something of a distant mentor figure to Chise. She takes pride in her craft and her family, but is cautious of magic due to the incident in her past that led to gemstones being merged into her arms.

Angelica also doesn't hesitate to tell off Elias when he does something he shouldn't, even though this is due to the fact that she has known him since she was a child.

Titania (ティターニア, Titānia) is the Queen of the Fae and the wife of Oberon.

Titania is as beautiful tall as a human with large breasts and floor-length black hair that is parted at the center, pointed ears and violet eyes. Her dress is black and adorned with gold and she has a circlet that resembles green branches.

However, this is but her first appearance. Titania's appearance has actually been slightly different each time she appeared in the story.

As a queen, she is followed by an entourage including a foot soldier named Spriggan, a pack of wolves and a mule with a flower on it's head.Unlike her husband Oberon, Titania is free spirited woman who will maintain an air of regalia in front of people. She has little patience, sending dogs to attack Oberon, and cast spells that force people away. Titania dominates her husband, physically manhandling him if he bothers Elias Ainsworth. She is a loving woman, appearing multiple times to aid Elias and Chise but due to her fae nature, her concept of love is rather possessive, a trait remarked upon by Elias. She in turn, has actually jested with him on it and noted it to be true

Morrígan (モリガン, Mórrígan) is one of the old gods of Winter and Death.[2] Possibly a misunderstanding of the Celtic Goddess Cailleach. Since the Cailleach is said to follow the god of summer as he dies (Cernunnos or deer god). Also she becomes Brigid as the spring comes.The Winter Goddess is a tall woman with exceptionally long, dark and wavy hair with a motherly figure, and a pregnant belly. Her eyes are bright with white pupils. She's clad in a long dress that reaches down to her feet, and it's black from the ankles and upwards while the lower parts are white.[3]The mother comes off as a stoic and serious being while being presented in a regal presence, yet her demeanor changes somewhat when she takes notice of a branch from an oak mistletoe. As she takes ahold of it, her mood becomes much happier.[4]

The Winter Goddess clearly appreciates gifts.

When the Winter Goddess regains her true name and summons her power, her personality becomes bloodthirsty and sadistic. Before slaughtering the Sargent family guards she tells them to enjoy her beauty because it is the last sight they will see.

Silver Lady (銀の君, Gin no Kimi), more commonly referred to as Silky (シルキー, Shirukī), is supporting character of The Ancient Magus' Bride series. Is a former Banshee that was transformed into a Silky with the help of Spriggan.

She's currently the housekeeper within the residence of Elias and Chise.Spriggan thinks she is the vision of a silvery flower, which may be why she has taken the namesake. Silver has one outfit: a pink Victorian dress with And she always wears white gloves on her hands. a matching shawl and bonnet. The bonnet has yellow flowers on each side. Her hair is blonde and was once long, however, it became much shorter after her transformation.According to Elias, Silver was never the type for idle chatter. Silver remains mostly silent in her appearances with a stoic look on her face and an often reserved demeanor. Despite this, she is capable of showing emotion at times, such as being content when Chise returned after being awoken by Oberon and growing defensive of Chise in the presence of Simon. She is also shown to grow upset when her food is left uneaten or mealtime is ignored or forgotten.

Elias Ainsworth (エリアス・エインズワース, Eriasu Einzuwāsu) is one of the main protagonists of The Ancient Magus' Bride series. He is a Mage who is a being made of both Fae and human elements, though his origins are a mystery.

He is the purchaser, magic teacher and husband of Chise Hatori.In his most common form, Elias is a bipedal humanoid with the skull of a wolf and the horns of a goat[2] in place of a head, with glowing red beams of light in the empty sockets of his eyes. Chise Hatori mentions that his eyes change depending on his emotions.

He is considerably taller than an average human, with the average person only reaching his chest. His neck is the only part that shows skin, which is dark purple. He wears a three-piece suit: a black robe with sleeves embroidered with white threads, white gloves paired with a black vest (blue in the manga) and a white undershirt. He also sports a blue stone bolo necktie tucked just beneath his collar (it was gifted to him by the one who gave him his name). His horns are adorned with a string of gold that hangs on his neck and connects to a red cloth.Even though Elias is polite and kind, he is noted to be immensely reclusive because of his inability to relate to humans and rarely interacts with others as a result. He is extremely fascinated by humans and their emotions, which he attributes to being unable to experience them himself. To this end, he has adopted the mannerisms of a classic "gentleman" and closely studies people, though he is usually unable to imitate their examples. Though withdrawn, he tends to be aloof and has an unfriendly streak with certain people. He says he does not lie, but keeps his intentions shrouded by leaving out information and tries to keep his past hidden. But despite a few instances of malice, he has several child-like tendencies, including throwing tantrums. Despite this, he is very willing to make amend of his wrongdoings, and while his exact actions are explicit, he regularly does deeds for the Church

Chise Hatori (羽鳥 智世, Hatori Chise) is a Sleigh Beggy and one of the main protagonists of The Ancient Magus' Bride series. She is the apprentice and bride of Elias Ainsworth.Chise is a Japanese fair-skinned girl in her mid-teens with chin-length red hair that has grown up to shoulder-length later on and wide green eyes.Her clothes vary, but she is often seen with an oversized green hooded coat, a red sweater vest with a white buttoned shirt underneath, a knee-length dirty dark-green skirt, and below-the-knees laced brown boots.Chise seems to be a typical teenage girl, though with a somewhat meek, subservient personality and issues with socialization, having been considered an oddball by other children her age. She also tends to become attached to others quickly, particularly those who show her kindness. This exterior, however, belies a kind and courageous interior willing to go above and beyond in helping others, even at her own expense.

Having been ostracized by both her relatives and partially by society, orphaned Japanese student Chise Hatori decides to sell herself at an auction in order for somebody else to take her in and have a new place to call home. At the auction in London, she is sold for five million pounds to Elias Ainsworth, a seven-foot-tall humanoid with an animal skull for a head. The magus, who seems closer to a demon than human, either brings her the light she desperately seeks or drowns her in ever deeper shadows in her new country, Great Britain. The series deals with a romantic slice-of-life storyline in a surreal and supernatural light.
