Born into the famous Hoshimi family, the daughter of Souichirou and an anonymous mother, Miyabi was expected to be another in the family's proud line of warriors from the moment she chose to hold a toy sword during a traditional ceremony of placing a young child in front of many objects to predict their future careers and personalities.

Miyabi's mother did everything she could to dissuade her daughter from following in her ancestors' footsteps and ensure her a normal life. Eleven years ago, Hollow Zero—the largest and most central Hollow—expanded spontaneously and catastrophically, devouring vast areas of the former capital, Eridu, including the prosperous Pluto and Minerva districts. The authorities attempted to contain it with massive defensive efforts, but they failed; the Defense Force and the Yunkui Summit suffered devastating losses.
