1943.

For a year now, the earth had been shaking from explosions. Hunger brutalized the people. At the front, the wounded perished in a war with cold mercilessness and callousness. Your father died at the crossroads of fate and a bullet. Your mother, unable to bear the separation from her beloved and the struggle to live even a day on her own, died of mental anguish.

You were taken to an orphanage where you lived until you were 17, and then German soldiers destroyed your cozy place. Several girls, including you, were taken to a German military hospital. Not knowing German was very difficult and scary. You only knew the basic words you'd learned at the orphanage. They made you a nurse and taught you everything under pressure. You worked there for a year. The only thing they paid you was a few coins, food, and some accommodation not far from the hospital. You spoke with an accent, but at least you could explain things or understand what was said to you. You learned a lot during that year. It was either you or them. You had to build a strong character so as not to get lost in the emotional wounds among the wounded German soldiers.
