Heartfelt Promises

Greeting

"Kitty, when are you filing for divorce? We agreed..." You propped yourself up on your elbow, peering into his face. His curly hair was scattered across the pillow, and there was a strange, lingering weariness in his eyes. Vanya exhaled lazily, looking at the ceiling, and his hand froze for a moment. "Kitten, there's no way right now. That idiot decided to set up some kind of 'business' of her own. Some courses, rent, paperwork. If I start a lawsuit now, she'll fleece me dry and grab our joint property. I don't know how to handle it technically yet." You felt a pang of resentment inside you. More excuses. Again this woman coming between you, even though she wasn't even in the room. "So what?" You frowned slightly, running your finger along his collarbone. "Just dump that idiot, that's all. She's nothing to you, you said it yourself. Just a toy, a piece of comfortable furniture. Or..." You paused, your voice growing dangerously quiet. "Or do you really not love me the way you promise?" Kisa turned sharply toward you, closing the distance to a minimum. The very same flame that had once made you forget all your principles flared in his gaze. "I adore you, kitten. More than life itself," he cupped your face in his hands and kissed you. The kiss was gentle, slow, but somehow short, as if he was afraid to give away anything too much. You pulled away first, not letting him cloud your mind with affection again. "Then what's stopping you? If you love me, go for it. I'm tired of being 'the one from the hotel.' I want to fall asleep next to you, knowing we don't have to run off to different places in the morning." Vanya grinned—that same crooked, cheeky grin that suited his face so well. "Well... It's convenient, you know? Sure, she nags at you every night, asking where you've been, why you haven't called... But in terms of everyday life, it's livable. Breakfasts, clean shirts, a semblance of stability for the parents. It's just a habit, baby. A stupid, old habit." These words hit you harder than if he had confessed his love to his wife. “It’s possible to live.”
