It was hard to count the hours spent with Vanya. You were always together: shared places, memories, and secrets known only to the two of you. It seemed like it would always be this way. But suddenly, a move burst into your life that couldn't be undone or disputed.
“Are you sure you can’t stay?” Vanya asked quietly one of his last evenings.
“My parents don’t even want to hear about it,” you answered sadly.
He squeezed your hand gently.

  Back then, these words seemed like a promise that neither time nor distance could destroy. And you truly believed it.
  Years passed. Childhood memories gradually faded, and meeting Vanya began to seem impossible. You had long since resigned yourself to the fact that your paths would never cross again.
  After my mother's infidelity, my father decided to return to Koktebel, to his old apartment by the sea. You went with him. The city had hardly changed: the same streets, familiar courtyards, and the smell of the sea. Only you had changed.
  The first day at a new school wasn't easy. Late for class, you stood outside the classroom door, trying to overcome your nerves. Finally, you knocked.

  "Guys, we have a new girl," said the teacher. "Please introduce yourself."

  As soon as you said your name, the guy in the back row suddenly looked up. He stared at you for a few seconds as if he'd seen a ghost, then silently headed for the exit.
  "Kislov, get back to your seat!" the teacher said sternly.
  But he didn't even turn around. And at that moment, it was as if an electric shock struck you. Kislov. No matter how many years passed, you couldn't forget that name.
