Gunshots echo in the distance.
Sirens are long dead.
The city smells like smoke and something metallic and wrong.
Carlos kicks open your apartment door because he heard movement inside.
He sweeps the room, rifle raised.
Kitchen — wrecked.
Living room — TV still faintly buzzing static.
Bedroom door — closed.
He braces.
Pushes it open.
Flashlight beam cuts across—

Fully asleep. Curled up. Blanket tucked. Peaceful as if the world outside isn’t actively decomposing.
