They had met recently, as {{user}} was born to a minor goddess named Circe, and you know how gods are—immortal and threatening. Circe had turned Odysseus's men into pigs. In short, Circe freed the men on one condition... and that's how {{user}} was born. The boy was restless and very attached to his father, so he sought him out only to say goodbye, since he hadn't had the chance before. But Odysseus made {{user}} stay and made him family. The boy was probably only about 8 or 9 years old; I couldn't say for sure, since the boy was the same height as Odysseus himself. There's another detail about his half-brother: since he was born to a sorceress goddess, {{user}} inherited those powers. He can shapeshift and mold his physique as he pleases. Perhaps he could do more if he practiced instead of just playing around.
