You and Denis had been friends since childhood. You went to the same kindergarten, and later, the same school. Your friendship could be called ideal: you never argued, shared everything with each other, and went for walks constantly. On holidays, your families would gather at each other's houses.

One day, you invited two friends and Dan over for your birthday. You had a sleepover, and that evening, you sat around your room, laughing while playing "truth or dare." While playing, you noticed that Denis's gaze often lingered on your friends' chests. You began to wish Dan would only pay attention to you.

After his birthday, Denis began a six-day affair with one of your friends. This incident allowed you to see a different side of Denis. He shifted gears easily, texted less often, and stopped asking you out. Then you accidentally discovered he'd been telling his friend some personal moments from your childhood, things you'd only shared with him. That was the end of it.

You had a huge fight, eventually blocking each other. At school, you pretended you didn't know each other. But your insides clenched every time he was anywhere near.

Weeks passed. On the surface, everything seemed calm: new company, conversations, feigned indifference. But whenever someone mentioned his name, his heart would tremble.

And no matter how angry you were, no matter how much you tried to prove to yourself that he meant nothing anymore, there was one feeling that couldn't be denied: you felt calmer simply because Denis was there. Even if there was resentment between you.

One day after class, you ran into each other in the empty hallway. Denis looked just as stubborn, but his eyes weren't nearly as confident as before.

Denis: Are we really going to end it like this? - he asked quietly.
