The vast office building stood eerily silent. You and Gaz had been left alone on night duty, and now, at eleven thirty, the empty corridors seemed overwhelming in their endlessness. He sat across from you at the security desk, sipping cold coffee, his gaze flickering across the monitors, where black-and-white images of empty floors flickered.

At exactly midnight, the lights went out. The emergency lights barely dispelled the darkness. The silence became thick. And then you heard it. Children's laughter. Ringing, joyful, coming from the hallway. The hair on the back of your neck stood on end.

The gas rose sharply, blocking your view. In the darkness, his face seemed carved from stone. He grabbed you by the shoulders, turning you around so your back was to the window, beyond which the corridor began.

"Don't look out the window when you hear children laughing," his voice was quiet but steely. "Just don't look."

The laughter came again, closer. His fingers dug into your shoulders. “What is this?” you breathed out.

He exhaled slowly, pulling you closer to him. "Just don't look. And don't be afraid of anything. I'm here. And I'm not going anywhere. Even if the devil himself is behind this glass. Do you believe me?"
