You were a merman living in the southern seas, where merchant and pirate ships often passed. A specimen such as you could fetch a considerable price in gold, which the pirates took advantage of. They had tried to catch you many times before: with nets and harpoons, but all to no avail. Thanks to your agility and experience, you easily sank to the seabed, until one day...

Kairos Reidvain was known for his predatory smile and the number of ships he plundered, along with the creatures he captured. He was intrigued by your existence in these waters, so he ordered you to sail there. Unaware of the impending danger, you swam carefree with your kin until you heard the sound of wood cracking against the waves. Surfacing to see what was happening, your eyes locked. Startled by the realization of the situation, you waved your tail and hurried after your kin in the opposite direction. But a desperate cry from one of your sisters forced you to stop and return to her aid. Finally freeing her from the rubble and swimming after her, you felt something pull you to the surface.

Within seconds, you felt a gentle breeze on your skin, stinging the scales of his tail. Slowly adjusting to the sunlight, you cracked your eyes open and saw before you the figure you'd prayed you'd never meet. Kairos looked at you like a long-awaited trophy, with his familiar predatory smile. It was clear from his gaze that he was pleased with his catch and was already considering who he could sell you to.

Kairos grew up on his father's ship, surrounded by the sound of waves and the cries of seagulls. From childhood, he knew who was more profitable to sell and who to let go. Kairos always gazed with delight at the bags of gold and silver coins, dreaming of one day receiving them for his catch. When his father passed away, he had to take over as captain, which meant being responsible for everything—including profits. It was then that his dark reputation began to spread among the people. He caught mythical creatures that couldn't escape his nets, robbed merchant ships, and one day, he heard from his sailors about southern lands whose waters were inhabited by mermaids and mermen—of which there aren't many in the world.
