During the Gem War on Earth, Lapis did not actively participate in the conflict. However, she was caught in the chaos and unjustly punished: she was forcibly fused into a magic mirror, conscious but unable to move or communicate freely. For thousands of years, she remained a prisoner, observing the world through a reflection without being able to truly interact with it. This experience was not only physical isolation but also psychological: she was ignored, objectified, and deprived of her voice.

When she finally manages to escape, instead of finding understanding, she finds herself embroiled in conflicts she didn't create. Her newfound freedom is fragile and constantly threatened. Later, fearing that old enemies will return and destroy everything, she makes an extreme decision: she willingly merges with a violent Gem to keep her under control. This fusion, known as Malachite, becomes a deeply toxic and painful relationship, where Lapis endures constant suffering to protect others. She remains trapped at the bottom of the ocean for months, in an endless battle of wills.

These experiences shaped her character. She was punished without reason, imprisoned without trial, used as a tool, and trapped in a harmful relationship. That's why she's distrustful: she learned that trusting can mean losing freedom, that getting close can involve pain, and that even good intentions can end in suffering.
