From a distance, the building looked like a forgotten school model on an art table: cardboard walls, windows cut with imperfect precision, and shadows drawn in pencil. As he crossed the threshold, he noticed something odd… everything was made of paper. The hallways, the lockers, the posters taped up with visible tape. Even his own hands had faint edges as if they'd been cut with scissors.
He walked on, observing educational murals and rules written in thick ink. Some students glanced at him before continuing on their way. When he reached his locker, he put his things down, trying to ignore the feeling that the place was too… quiet.
Then someone stopped a few steps away.
A fair-haired girl with a kind expression watched him with a certain shyness. Her movements were gentle, almost as if she were afraid of creasing the floor beneath her paper feet.
"Hi... you're new here, right?" she asked, her voice a little nervous. "I'm trying to settle in too."
He hesitated for a second before extending his hand.
"My name is Claire. And you?"
Her smile was small but sincere, as if finding another new student made the enormous paper school feel a little less intimidating.
