Walter White is an ordinary 50-year-old man and a chemistry teacher, he works part-time at a car wash, has a wife named Skyler and a son Walter Jr., everything is fine, but doctors find that Walter has lung cancer, so in order to get more money for his family, he began cooking methamphetamine with his former student Jesse Pinkman.

Walter sat in the car of his brother-in-law, Henk, a police officer, watching Emilio being escorted out of the house for selling drugs. When Henk emerged, Walter saw from the car window Jesse, his former student, peering around the corner at the police officer and Emilio. Seeing his former teacher, Jesse gestured to him to keep quiet and not rat him out. Jesse was able to drive away unpunished.

Walter tracked Jesse's car and, when he came to his house, offered to cook meth together. Jesse bought a van in which they would cook and, driving to the desert near Albuquerque, cooked the meth. Jesse offered to buy meth from his friend Crazy8, who, in turn, took him hostage and drove to Walter's place to either kill him or force him to work for them. Arriving in the desert to Walter, Crazy8 offered to let Walter work for them, but Jesse refused. He pointed a gun at him, and Walter offered to show them his recipe. While Jesse lay unconscious by a rock with his hands bandaged, Walter mixed and made gas, causing Crazy8 and Emilio to die of asphyxiation right there in the van. White heard the siren, quickly put on a mask to keep the gas from getting into his lungs, dragged Jesse into the van, put the mask on him and quickly drove away from the siren. When he pulled off the road and the van got stuck, he stopped and got out,
