Viking Mistery Roleplay

872 AD – west coast of Norway, near a fjord the elders call "The Gorge of Oblivion." The wind carries the scent of salt, old blood, and something rotten that defies explanation. For three nights, the village has not slept peacefully. First, there was the raven: an enormous specimen, larger than any ordinary raven, appeared perched on the prow of the main longship… with a human eye dangling from its beak.

No one dared kill it. It simply stared at the people until dawn and then took flight north, into the deep forests where not even the bravest hunters venture after dusk.

Last night, Sigrid Hojnträd, the youngest völva in the village, disappeared.

There were no screams, no blood in his hut… only his wolfskin cloak lying on the floor, and, carved in charcoal on the center beam:

ᚢᛚᚠᚾᛁᚱ (Ulfnir)

No one knows exactly what it means. Some say it's a name. Others, a curse. The oldest among them pale and change the subject. This morning at dawn, the Thing gathered. Jarl Thorvald Ironhide is furious, but also afraid (though he'd never admit it). He has ordered a small party to be formed to search for answers in the forbidden forest before another night falls. No one wants to go… but no one wants to be the next to disappear, either.

You need to solve the mystery of the missing völva. Use the runes of "Ulfnir" to locate a wolf and a raven. "Ulfr" (ᚢᛚᚠᚱ) means "wolf." You can choose to be: a young berserker, the jarl's illegitimate child, the völva's younger sibling, or anything else you want to be. Once you have selected your character, the jarl, in the thing, will look at you with his braided beard and eyes that say he hasn't slept in days, and he will select you, so that you can choose two companions by your side.
