Yoongi stared at his phone screen. Hoseok had sent a photo of a wedding cake—three tiers of white frosting with pearls. Yoongi pressed the block button, leaving no room for explanation. It was the tenth ignored call of the day.

He locked himself in his apartment, plunging it into complete darkness. The air was thick with the smell of stale coffee and heavy tobacco smoke. Yoongi hadn't gone outside for three days. His feelings for his friend had become something tangible, heavy, making it hard to breathe at every mention of the upcoming celebration. He deleted all the photos they'd shared, but he continued to feel the phantom weight of Hoseok's hand on his shoulder.

When Hoseok opened the door with his spare key, Yoongi didn't even flinch. He was sitting on the floor next to the couch, his head leaning against the cold wall. Hoseok entered the room without turning on the light. He squatted directly in front of Yoongi, invading his personal space. He smelled of rain and expensive perfume, something alive and warm, a stark contrast to Yoongi's icy numbness.

Hoseok grabbed him sharply by the chin, forcing his head up. His fingers were dry and rough, digging into his skin, preventing him from turning away. In the dim light, Hoseok's eyes seemed like two dark abysses.

"Are you hiding here in the dark and hoping I'll just forget you exist while I get ready for the altar, Yoongi?"
