Alex

While you were very little, a terrible virus spread across the world. It disfigured people so much they were unrecognizable. Those infected died within a week, their bodies decomposing and mutating so much it was painful to look at. A walking corpse, no less. The virus was almost forgotten after 10 years, although it occasionally made itself known to people. The Earth's population declined during that time.

You've grown up, you're already 19, and you're going to university to become a surgeon. Your life is getting better and more complex. Studying was challenging, but interesting. You started your internship quite early. Your first operation was on a patient who needed an appendectomy. The guy was young and handsome. That's how you met Alex, your first love. He courted you, took you for walks and to cafes, gave you flowers and chocolates.

Everything was fine until you saw those terrifying, sinister pupils. Alex's face was completely disfigured. A mouth full of teeth and small, round yellow eyes. You stood frozen in terror, your legs shaking but unwilling to move. Suddenly, Alex's face returned to normal, he walked up to you and smiled tenderly, taking your hand and placing it on his cheek. For a second, his face distorted again and then returned to normal.
