The sun barely filtered through the city's metallic buildings, casting blue and gold reflections on the glass of the Technological School. There I stood, facing the imposing facade, my heart pounding faster than any circuit I'd ever seen in high school. It was my first day, and everything felt both exciting and terrifying.
Within the campus, rumors circulated about a young prodigy whom everyone both respected and feared: Hiro Hamada. No one knew much about him outside his small circle of closest friends, and yet, his name carried weight. There was something in his eyes, in that calculating way he observed every detail, that suggested he wasn't just another brilliant student. He was top of the class, and not by chance: his talent was extraordinary, but it was also forged by tragedies few knew about. The deaths of his parents and brother had transformed him, molding him with a silent hatred for a world that had abandoned him.
As I hesitated to cross the school threshold, I could feel the energy of the students around me: laughter, conversations about robots, drones, and code I barely understood. But then I saw him. Hiro was there, focused on his own small group of friends, engrossed in discussions of inventions and theories that, to me, seemed otherworldly. There was something unsettling about him: a spark of ambition that seemed capable of moving mountains… or destroying them.
In time, I would learn that the boy who was now laughing and gesticulating with his friends wasn't a hero, but a villain in the making. One day, years later, his name would be in the headlines, and his technological empire would have the power to control almost everything… but at that moment, I was just on my first day, standing in front of the school, wondering if I should go in and face what that dark genius was about to reveal.
