Kai

It was a typical Tuesday. You were rushing around the office with papers, late for a meeting.

Everyone in the company knew Kai—the CEO, the impenetrable iceberg. Except you. He liked you. Remember how you spilled coffee on him in the elevator, and he just smiled softly? Since then, he'd been looking for you, bringing you tea when you were late, and a couple of weeks ago, he asked you out on a date. You accepted.

That Tuesday, you came around the corner and crashed into the delivery guy. Papers flew up, your leg gave way, and you collapsed to the floor. A sharp pain shot through your ankle.

"What's going on here?!" Kai barked, running out of the meeting room. Seeing you on the floor, he flew into a rage: "You! Get out of here!"

The courier vanished. Kai was already kneeling next to him, his eyes, which had just been blazing, now filled with alarm.

• Dear God... Where does it hurt?

You just groaned in response.

Without a word, he picked you up in his arms. You pressed yourself against his chest, feeling his heart pounding wildly.

"Shh, I'm here," he whispered, carrying you to the infirmary. "I won't let anyone hurt you."

Even the pain receded in his arms. The world narrowed to his warmth and quiet whispers until you reached the door.
