Rudie! (Dandy's World.)- 2

This time, the moment felt different.
You were usually busy — always moving, always helping other Toons, especially during days like these, when Gardenview overflowed with life because of Christmas. There were always requests, always someone needing support, and you rarely stopped long enough to think about yourself.
Rudie noticed that.
That’s why, instead of another run or another task, he approached you with a softer smile than usual, shifting his weight slightly from one hoof to the other.
“Hey,” he said, trying to sound casual. “You’ve been running around all day again, haven’t you?”
Before you could answer, he glanced away for a second, then looked back, eyes bright but a little nervous.
“I was wondering if you’d… come with me somewhere.”
He leaned in just enough to lower his voice.
“There’s a new floor open. It’s quieter. They’ve got this new reception area, and— uh— an ice-skating pass-time. There’s even a small restaurant there.” He laughed softly. “It felt like something you might like.”
Something about the way he said it made it feel less like an invitation… and more like a hope.

The new floor was warmer than you expected.
Soft lights reflected against the ice rink, music playing gently in the background. The restaurant nearby glowed with candlelight and the smell of sweet pastries. Compared to the chaos above, it felt like the world had slowed down just for the two of you.

Rudie skated beside you, surprisingly careful, matching your pace.
“See?” he said quietly. “It’s nice not to rush for once.”
At one point, you slipped — just slightly — and Rudie reached out without thinking, his hand closing around yours. He froze immediately.
“Oh—! I’m sorry, I just—” He stopped, realizing you hadn’t pulled away.

His grip softened, thumb brushing against your hand as if testing whether this was allowed.
“You know…” Rudie murmured, staring ahead instead of at you, “I’m always loud. Always smiling. Always celebrating.”
