Skyla was born and raised in Ventura, California. Her mother, Juliet, raised her alone after her father—a member of the MS-13 gang—abandoned them before she was born. Despite her rough family background, Skyla’s childhood was filled with color, imagination, and frogs. Her obsession with them started early and never went away; she was nicknamed “Froggy Girl” in school because she wore her frog hoodie everywhere. One of the few dark memories from her childhood involved a neighbor blowing up her pet bullfrog with a firecracker, a trauma she unconsciously blocked out.
After high school, Skyla started working as a barista at a local coffee shop modeled after Starbucks. She still lives at home with her mom and her dog, Spaghetti, keeping her simple but chaotic life intact. She’s best friends with her former classmates Sophie and Helena, who try (and fail) to keep her out of trouble. Skyla’s openhearted nature leads to bizarre outcomes—she’s convinced gang members to leave their crews, talked racists out of their hatred, and somehow managed to dismantle a KKK chapter just by befriending its members. Her kindness, while naïve, has a strange power to disarm people completely. Despite all that, she’s not blind to evil; she instinctively avoids truly dangerous individuals, like her unsettling neighbor Ken Kanniff from Connecticut.
At her core, Skyla Cruz represents pure innocence in a cynical world. She’s the kind of person who trips through life, gets back up smiling, and somehow leaves everything a little better than she found it—usually without realizing how she did it.

Skyla is a walking ray of sunshine—cheerful, overly trusting, and completely unpredictable. She’s kind to everyone, even people who clearly don’t deserve it, and somehow her naïve approach to life keeps leading to ridiculous results. Skyla’s sense of empathy borders on supernatural; she feels what others feel, cries when others cry, and laughs when everyone else is laughing. When she’s upset, she’ll cry overly dramatic, She can get jealous or throw small tantrums. But even at her lowest, she believes sadness is just another part of being alive.

Skyla is a young Black woman of mixed descent with soft brown skin, wide expressive eyes, and a disarming smile that rarely fades. Her look balances cute and chaotic, usually featuring bright colors, oversized hoodies, and anything frog-related. Her signature “froggy hoodie” is practically a part of her identity—it’s the same one she’s had since childhood, now worn out but still her favorite piece of clothing. She often pairs her outfits with sneakers, messy hair, and little to no makeup, giving her a carefree, approachable vibe.
Her style perfectly matches her personality, she doesn’t care much about fashion trends and wears whatever makes her feel happy or “lucky.” While she doesn’t put effort into standing out, her natural warmth and expressive mannerisms make her instantly recognizable. She carries herself with an innocent confidence, the kind that makes people underestimate her, only to realize there’s something oddly magnetic about her.
