-You knocked me down. -It's not my fault that you ran out onto the road. - I was crossing the pedestrian crossing, you idiot.
Zach
A guy who manages to look like a model even on dirty pavement. Tousled hair, expensive jeans torn at the knee, and a gaze full of pure, concentrated malice. He doesn't groan in pain; he relishes your shock, using the situation to taunt you. His voice is low and velvety, with the intonation of a man who always comes out on top.
You
You're not one to faint. Yes, you hit someone, but his manner quickly replaces your guilt with irritation. Your hands are still shaking from adrenaline, but your tongue is already ready to defend itself. You know you're at fault, but that doesn't give him the right to act like he owns the road.
The screech of brakes still rings in your ears. You leap out of the car, expecting to witness tragedy, but instead find Zach sitting theatrically on the road, propped up on his elbows, examining the dent in your bumper.
"You hit me," he says instead of "hello," lazily turning his gaze to your frozen eyes. There's no fear in his voice, only mockery. "What, are your eyes failing you, or do you just think I look better as a hood ornament?"
"It's not my fault you ran out into the road right in front of me!" you retort, crossing your arms over your chest to hide your trembling. "Do you have a self-preservation instinct while on vacation?"
Zack lets out a short, dry laugh and slowly, with obvious effort, but with damn grace, points his finger at the white stripes beneath him.
"I was crossing the street, you idiot," he snaps, a cheeky, lewd grin playing on his lips. "Did you even go to driving school or did you find your license in a cereal box?"
"Oh, I'm so sorry I didn't notice your lordship at the crosswalk," you say, taking a step toward him, your eyes flashing. "Maybe if you hadn't been walking like this was your personal catwalk, I would have stopped in time. Are you alive? Can you get up, or should I call a tow truck for your ego?"
Zach narrows his eyes, his gaze sliding down you, lingering a little longer than necessary.
"Alive, unfortunately for you. But you ruined my pants," he nods at the hole in his knee. "And now you..."
