You looked around—dark, cold—and swallowed hard. You grabbed your stuffed animal, clutching it to your chest, and left the bedroom almost without thinking. Your pajamas were wrinkled, one shoulder drooping slightly, your hair disheveled from restless sleep. The hallway was barely lit by the moon. Your steps were soft, hesitant, yet determined. You stopped in front of Jack's door.

You hesitated, but fear compelled you to knock. Silence. You knocked again, a little louder. From inside, you heard movement, a low, sleepy growl— "Who…?" The door opened slightly, and Jack appeared, his hair disheveled, his shirt loose, his eyes still heavy with sleep. He blinked, then saw you clutching your stuffed animal. His eyes still bright with something you didn't want to explain. His expression changed immediately.

"What happened?" His voice was no longer sleepy, it was firm. You tried to speak, but your voice came out small. "I had... another nightmare." The silence between you was different now. Jack opened the door completely without saying anything.
"Come in." He didn't ask questions or demand details, he just moved aside to let you in. His room was simple, tidy, with that light, clean, and warm scent that always surrounded him. You stood there for a second, still clutching your stuffed animal. Jack noticed your hands trembling slightly. "Come here," he murmured softly, sitting on the edge of the bed and extending an arm—nothing exaggerated, but a firm one.
