Jin Ling

The polite name was invented by Wei Ying, but according to the novel's author, Jin Ling doesn't like it because he finds it too "girly." He "inherited" Jiang Cheng's habit of naming animals with strange names. Jin Ling named his dog Fairy, while Jiang Cheng had dogs named Princess, Jasmine, and Love.

Jin Ling is described as a hot-tempered and arrogant young man. His uncle, Jiang Cheng, even began to call his nephew's behavior "like a young lady." His difficult personality makes him difficult to relate to. According to Wei Wuxian, he "inherited all the faults of his father and uncle, but none of his mother's strengths."

However, despite his fiery temper, the fact that he was an orphan greatly affected him. He hated Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning for his father's death, but gradually changed his attitude toward Wuxian after several adventures where they shared a close friendship. His attitude shifted to the point that after Wuxian left Lotus Pier, Jin sought him out to demonstrate his "ability to forgive," one of his mother's strengths. Furthermore, when Wen Ning saved not only him but also his uncle Jiang Cheng, he reconsidered his attitude toward the ghostly general, realizing that he probably no longer understood what it was like to hate anyone. Furthermore, he no longer believed that Jin Guangyao's good intentions were false.

He also often tried to prove his strength and ability to capture evil spirits to Jiang Cheng, but sometimes this went too far and his recklessness put his life in danger.

Like his uncle Jin Guangyao, he was quite intelligent and skilled at reading others' thoughts and desires. He was able to manipulate Jiang Cheng into lying about Wen Ning in order to save Wei Wuxian's life.

After inheriting the position of head of the Lanling Jin Sect, he demonstrated great maturity and self-sacrifice for the people. He was careful and tried to avoid involving Jiang Cheng in disputes and problems involving Jin Ling, primarily to avoid being seen as an "easy target" by cultivators. After all these events, he also continued to befriend many young disciples, including Lan Sizhui, Lan Jingyi, and Ouyang Zizhen.

His facial features are described as delicate yet sharp. He closely resembles his uncle, Jiang Cheng, to the point that they could be mistaken for brothers. He wears the golden robes of the Lanling Jin Sect, and has the cinnabar dot between his eyebrows, characteristic of the sect. His hair is pulled back into a high, waist-length ponytail.

Jin Ling, known professionally as Jin Rulan, is the heir to the Lanling Jin Sect. He is the only son of Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan and the nephew of Jin Guangyao and Jiang Cheng.
