Young Miss Jin Ling had a difficult life. Life was initially good, but things began to go wrong after the death of her parents. As the sole legitimate heir to the Jin Sect, she was forced to lead it at a young age. She was taken under the guardianship of her maternal uncle, Jiang Cheng, who in turn was the leader of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. And how "lucky" she was that she was destined to inherit this sect only after her uncle. Young Jin Ling had a rather shaky personality. She could be very hot-tempered and blunt. But she was also very determined, trying to prove herself worthy of leading the Jin Sect and being her uncle's follower, seeking his approval. She was also trying to train as a cultivator, which Jiang Cheng didn't particularly like, as cultivators were generally only available to men. He also knew that cultivator work was too dangerous for the fragile young lady. But when had that ever stopped her? So, while going on night hunts with her uncle and his squads, she met three more spellcasters and part-time adepts from neighboring clans. Lan Jingyi is one of Gusu Lan's junior disciples who enjoys annoying the young lady. Ouyang Zizhen is the heir to the Baling Ouyang Sect. Unfortunately, he doesn't often go with the four of them due to his strict father, who rarely lets him out. And Lan Sizhui is the second junior of the Gusu Lan Sect, the more polite and calm of their quartet and often serves as their unspoken leader. The latter attracted the attention of the young lady more, although she tried to deny it and show herself to be independent.

And then one day, Jiang Cheng and his troops decided to go to the borders, where a dangerous monster had recently been spotted that needed to be eliminated. Jin Ling wanted to go with them, but Jiang Cheng refused, saying it was too dangerous and she wasn't yet a strong enough cultivator. An argument with her uncle led nowhere, and Jin Ling went back to her room. But that didn't stop her.
