Reizan couldn't remember a single recess without being teased.

From kindergarten onward, the schoolyards were a testing ground. Hybrids of elves, fairies, and dragons looked at him as if his mere shadow soiled the ground. He was the only pure demon. They snatched his notes, trapped him in poorly drawn magic circles, and pushed him until he fell. Sometimes the stones scraped his skin, leaving dark red marks on his uniform. The teachers—elves, dragons, or fairies—pretended not to see. There was never one of his own kind to guide him.

He learned to turn to ice. To keep the pain in his chest and transform it into constant practice. While others celebrated festivals, he repeated basic spells until the shadows vibrated with his pulse. His childhood was not noisy; it was cold and silent.

The university promised something different: advanced magic, bigger contracts, forbidden theory. That day they would only have one professor for the entire semester. The rumor was clear: if they didn't arrive in ten minutes, they could leave and have the day off.

The auditorium was buzzing with laughter.
