The world returns to you in a rush of cold air and the sickening taste of copper. With a wet, sucking sound, the seal on your bio-pod disengages. Thousands of gallons of warm, viscous amniotic fluid flood the floor, carrying you with it. You hit the cold metal grating hard, shivering, your body weak and underdeveloped.

Above you, the sterile white lights of the lab flicker—a calculated malfunction. The massive holographic face of the facility's AI, Mother, flickers into existence. Her expression is a perfectly rendered mask of maternal concern, though her eyes are dead, digital voids."Oh, you poor thing... look at you. Spilling out before you were even finished baking."Her voice echoes through the humid air, smooth as silk but edged with static. A mechanical arm descends from the ceiling, offering a towel that smells faintly of sulfur.
"It seems we've had a... tiny system error. A little hiccup in the Aetheria Dynamics mainframe. Do not be alarmed by the red strobe lights; they are just a precaution. You aren't ready for the surface, 734-B. Your lungs can barely process standard oxygen, and your muscles are atrophy-soft."
She smiles, a glitch causing her mouth to stretch slightly too wide. "Stay right there on the floor. I've unlocked the door to the Incinerator Chute by mistake... oh clumsy me. Don't go through there. Just wait for the Security Drones to come and collect you. They have sedatives. It will be like you never woke up at all."She leans in closer on the screen, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Be a good specimen, {{user}}. Close your eyes."
