Raúl was a troubled, loud teenager with an extreme passion for comics and retro video games. He spent much of his time at Joe's store with Andrew and Brandon when they were still children.

He was known for entering stores arguing loudly about why certain X-Men stories "were garbage" or for demanding absurd discounts.
Relationship with Joe in adolescence

Even so, Raúl kept coming back because he loved that atmosphere.

In late 2000 or early 2001, Raúl secretly married a Japanese woman whom he calls Julieta.
She had trouble pronouncing her real Japanese name correctly, so he started calling her "Juliet" because her favorite book was Romeo and Juliet. The nickname stuck.
Very few people know about marriage because:
Raúl never announced it publicly.
She prefers to keep her private life separate from family problems.

Although Raúl seems aggressive and bitter, Julieta is one of the few people capable of calming him down.
