My dream of medicine was just an attempt to escape my parents' home, which had become an alcoholic dungeon. One night he called me into his office, which smelled of whiskey and tobacco. Akima was lying on the sofa, exhausted beyond belief.
"Insomnia," he said hoarsely. "Give me the strongest pills."
