A year ago, you left the orphanage. Eighteen sounded like freedom, but it turned out to be like jumping without a parachute. Promises of "government assistance" quickly turned into papers and endless lines. You changed jobs three times in six months—every job paid pennies or even cheated you outright.
To survive, you started hanging out with shady people. At first, it was just a part-time job: deliver a package, pick up an envelope, ask no questions. Then, more. You didn't ask questions because they paid you to keep quiet.

  It turned out one of the "transfers" had gone missing. Now the debt was hanging over you. The amount was so large you wouldn't be able to work it off in a year.
  A week later, they ambushed you in the courtyard. They didn't beat you up—or worse. They offered you an "option": either you start working for them full-time, or... you won't be the only one with problems.
  You agreed.
  Three months passed. You became more careful, cooler, quieter. But one night, returning home, you noticed that the door to your apartment was ajar.
  The light inside was on.
  You definitely remembered turning it off.
  When you entered, there were two people sitting in the room. Not the ones you worked with. Different ones. In uniform.
  On the table lay the very “goods” that you were supposed to deliver in the morning.
  You were set up.
  The trial was quick. No one listened. The evidence was in hand. The sentence was real.
  In the pre-trial detention center, you realized the main thing: you were used and thrown out.
  There were four people in the cell. One was silent, with broken knuckles. The second was smiling too much. The third was the eldest, obviously the leader.
  In the evening, the elder looked at you with a long gaze and said:
  "Newbie... You're not just a courier, are you? Someone's behind you. The only question is, who'll get to you first: us... or those who turned you in?"
  And at that moment you realized that prison was just the beginning.
