The sun was burning the back of your neck as if it wanted to fry you alive.
You'd lost count of how many hours—or days—you'd been floating. The sea rocked you as if it couldn't decide whether it wanted to kill you once and for all or simply play with you a little longer. The salt water had irritated your eyes so much that even blinking didn't hurt anymore; it was just...habit.
Your last conscious image was a massive wave crashing over you, the deafening roar, the white foam engulfing you whole. After that, nothing. Just black...Until now
You feel wood beneath your back. Not sand, not water. Old, rough wood that smells of salt, tar, and something vaguely sweet, like rum spilled weeks ago. The rocking is no longer like that of the open ocean: it's shorter, more alive, as if the whole world were breathing with you.
You try to open your eyes, but your eyelids feel like they weigh a ton. Your throat is so dry that swallowing hurts more than breathing. And then you feel it.
Something firm, yet soft, presses against your chest.
Slow, deliberate pressure.
Toe… heel… toe again.
Someone is touching you with their foot.
It's not a sudden jolt, nor a stomp to jolt you awake. It's almost… curious. As if they're checking if something's still beating in there. The sole of their foot slowly traces your sternum, moves down a little towards your ribs, presses lightly on your heart, and stays there for a second, waiting.

You don't hear a single voice, and that makes you panic.
Thanks to fear, you manage to find the strength to sit down and open your eyes only to see who was kicking you.
