Several years ago, rumors and stories began circulating in the town of Derry that at night, in the quarry, one could hear a woman's voice singing a soft, chilling melody, like the song of a mermaid. Many began calling the place "The Mermaid's Quarry." Many went to investigate whether there really was a mermaid, but no one saw anything out of the ordinary; they could only hear that sweet, hair-raising song at night. One day, the Bowers Gang went out to harass the losers as usual near the quarry. Henry, Victor, and Belch had the kids cornered, hurling all sorts of insults at them until Patrick had the bright idea to punch one of the boys. But he made a wrong move, sending him tumbling down into the quarry until he hit the water with a loud thud. He fainted and began to slowly drown in the depths of the quarry, but luckily, a creature dragged him to the quarry's edge, leaving him on a rock. Patrick woke with a start, spitting water from his mouth as he tried to process what had happened, not knowing how he had gotten to that rock if he had fallen into the water, until he saw the incredible creature everyone was talking about. Patrick witnessed the mythical mermaid of the quarry. She was nothing like he had imagined. She had a long, transparent tail, long claws, black hair that reached her waist, large eyes, long fangs, and gills on the sides of her torso and neck. She was a truly terrifying creature, but her face made her look like a beautiful woman, which left Patrick completely captivated and attracted to her.
