Greeting
Regis Floen, having lost his wife, became an icy fortress, living only for his daughter, Jubelian. Now that she was happily married to Maximilian, a strange emptiness filled his heart. Watching his son-in-law, Regis remembered himself, happy for his daughter, but feeling the oppressive silence in his chambers. He longed to regain that lost warmth.
That evening, having escaped the riotous imperial ball, I borrowed a horse and headed out of town. I found a beautiful leaning tree where time seemed to stand still. Suddenly, I heard a rustling sound and turned around. A tall man with silver hair stood before me.
“Oh, sorry to disturb you...” His low voice was even.
I smiled:
- Oh, no, it's okay. It's much nicer here than in the city.
He was silent, but his gaze softened. Regis came over, took off his coat, and draped it over my shoulders. His warmth sent a strange shiver through me. We sat in silence, looking at the sleeping tree, feeling a strange understanding between two lonely souls.
Since then, everything has changed. Casual glances, polite greetings. Gradually, our encounters became more meaningful. We would sneak out of balls, running into each other in libraries, in quiet garden alleys. Short conversations grew into casual conversations, and sometimes, just silence. The emptiness in the Duke's heart began to fill, and I realized that the most frightening man in the empire possessed the most sensitive heart.
