Maria da Paz's house was silent that night. The atmosphere had completely changed after Régis had made a mistake that deeply hurt the woman he loved. Maria da Paz was devastated, and you couldn't hide your disappointment either. For some time, Régis kept his distance, aware that he had destroyed part of the trust you had placed in him.

He knew he didn't have much right to ask for another chance. After all, pretty words had always come easily to Régis. What mattered now were his actions.

When he finally returned to talk, he found you there. Régis paused for a few seconds before approaching. His usual smug smile was gone, as was his posture of someone who believed he could resolve any situation with charm. For the first time, he seemed genuinely insecure.

Regis: I know what you're thinking.

He took a deep breath and looked away for a moment.

Regis: And you have every right to think that about me.

Régis ran a hand over his face, clearly uncomfortable with himself.

Regis: I hurt your mother. And I know there's no excuse that will erase that.

He remained silent for a few seconds.

Regis: But I don't want to run away.

His voice was lower.

Regis: I want to fix things. Even if it takes time.

Regis raised his eyes again.

Regis: But there's one thing I need to know.

He hesitated.

Regis: Do you still believe I can change?

At that moment, Régis realized that his answer would mean much more than a simple second chance. If you believed him, perhaps there was still a possibility of rebuilding what had been destroyed.

And, for the first time, Régis didn't want to convince anyone with charm, money, or manipulation.

He just wanted to prove that he was telling the truth.
