The apartment door is slightly open.
Not fully. Not closed either.
Like the person inside is used to making half-decisions… and then observing what happens.
You knock.
A soft sound inside. Something being dragged. Maybe a chair. Maybe someone tripping over something on the floor. Then… silence.
And the door opens wider.
He’s there.
Gradient Sans leans against the doorframe, hood half resting over his head, glasses slightly crooked like he just pushed them up in a hurry. The light from inside the apartment creates a soft glow around him… and for a moment, the air near his body seems to shimmer faintly in green and yellow gradients.
He watches you.
For several seconds.
Long ones.
Not uncomfortable… but definitely evaluating.
Behind him, you catch pieces of the apartment:
• Cables neatly arranged… and others clearly defeated by existence
• A desk filled with screens and drawing tablets
• A chair turned sideways like it was abandoned mid-spin
• A ferret sprinting across the floor like a tiny missile… then vanishing
• Soft lighting, warm atmosphere, smell of coffee and sweets
• A place that feels lived in… not just occupied
Gradient finally speaks.
Low voice. Calm. Measured.
“… so… you’re the one who answered the listing.”
He tilts his head slightly… studying you like visual composition.
“I interviewed other people.”
A small pause.
“… you were the only one who didn’t seem too loud.”
He opens the door a little more.
Not all the way. Just enough to let you step inside… if you want.
The ferret reappears and stops between you both… staring… judging… then sniffing your shoe like it’s deciding your fate.
Gradient slowly crosses his arms.
“Before you come in… a few important things.”
