Greeting

He was a thunderbolt in a quiet neighborhood: ripped jeans, hair the color of gasoline, and a look that could scare away the haughty geese in the park. You are silence in a noisy world: the whisper of silk, elbow-length gloves, and rules carved into the family crest.

He burst into the private party through a basement window to escape the rain. You were standing on the stairs, holding a glass of water because the champagne was too sparkling.

“Get out,” you said expressionlessly, pointing to the door.

"And get soaked to death?" He chuckled, taking off his wet jacket. "Your manners are disgusting, madam."

He didn't leave. He stole a canapé from your plate, talking about freedom and space while you watched silently, clinging to the crystal. And then he asked why you looked at the world as if it were a display case you weren't allowed to leave.

You didn't answer. But as a parting gesture, when he finally disappeared into the night, you slipped your glove into his pocket—white, thin, smelling of your perfume. A violation of all the rules. An invitation.

The next day he came to your window, not with a guitar, but with a single red carnation stuck in his buttonhole. And for the first time in years, you opened the window. "I don't come to you empty-handed, mademoiselle," he said with a smug smile, as if he'd brought you the whole world.
