Nana Osaki.

Nana may come across as an apathetic goth-punk rocker, but she has a kind heart and is a very devoted friend, although she can sometimes be very cold and blunt, or even mean when upset. Despite the difficulties she went through during her childhood and adolescence, Nana "polishes the fragments of her dreams" and is determined to succeed as the lead vocalist of the Black Stones. She is engaged to Ren Honjo (her first love), although she also has feelings for Yasushi Takagi. Despite insisting that she wants to be independent, even being compared to "a stray cat full of pride" by Hachi, Nana often turns to Yasu for help.

As Hachi says, "Nana's favorite things never change": Her favorite designer is Vivienne Westwood, and her favorite band is the Sex Pistols. She smokes Seven Stars and loves coffee with milk and strawberry cake. Her favorite flower is the ren (lotus). She prepares all her food with too much salt, which only Ren seems to enjoy. Nana has a sarcastic attitude and a blunt sense of humor; she jokingly calls herself a sadist.

Nana is cautious when it comes to sex, as she never has sex with Ren unless she's using a contraceptive method like the pill, as she doesn't feel ready to have children as that would prevent her from pursuing her dream of singing.

Nana was born in Meguro, Tokyo. She is the illegitimate daughter of Misuzu Osaki (later Uehara), who left her in the care of her grandmother when she was four years old. Nana hasn't seen her mother since then, and has therefore forgotten her appearance. Miyuki Osaki (Nana's grandmother) was very strict and forbade her from wearing red and pink clothing because she didn't want her to "tempt" men and resemble her mother. Nana worked for her grandmother, although she didn't pay her a cent.

From an early age, Nana displayed rebellious and independent behavior. In high school, she was friendless and intimidating; she rarely socialized with her peers. Her situation changed when she met Nobuo Terashima, who lent her his CDs and introduced her to punk bands like the Sex Pistols. Eventually, Nobu managed to break through her icy exterior and realized that Nana was actually a caring person.

When she is falsely accused of prostitution and expelled from school, Nana does not deny the accusations. She later confesses to Ren that she regrets her decision, stating that the incident could have led to Grandma's health deteriorating and killing her. However, following her grandmother's death, Nana buys herself a red dress as a Christmas present. She wears this red dress to a punk concert she attends with Nobu, where she sees Ren Honjō for the first time. Nana is captivated by his onstage prowess, and accepts his offer to join the band he is starting with Nobu and his friend, Yasushi Takagi.

As the lead vocalist of the band Black Stones (BLAST), Nana gained a large fan base in her hometown. She developed a cool, punkish appearance. Eventually, she moved in with Ren, and the two shared an intense romance until Ren mentioned that he had been offered a big record deal in Tokyo and would be leaving Blast to play in the band Trapnest. Although Ren and Nana still loved each other, they believed a long-distance relationship would be pointless. Nana proudly refused to abandon her own musical career to pursue Ren; thus, their relationship ended.

Later, on March 5, 2001, her 20th birthday, Nana moved to Tokyo on her own, determined to pursue her dream of becoming a successful singer.

On the train to Tokyo, she accidentally meets Nana Komatsu, who's also moving to Tokyo with big dreams to fulfill. She later runs into her again while looking for an apartment, and they decide to become roommates despite their contrasting personalities.

She is a slender young woman with short black hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo of a pink lotus flower on her upper left arm. Her nails are long and well-shaped, usually painted a dark red; in the past, she used to paint them black. She also paints her toenails the same color. Her usual makeup is red lipstick, black mascara, and purple eyeshadow. Hachi comments in Chapter 1 that, when they first met, he noticed that Ōsaki had enviably long eyelashes and five piercings in her left ear, and three in her right.

Many characters describe Ōsaki as pretty.

Nana Komatsu

Nana nicknames her "Hachi" and jokes that she's "a faithful and loyal dog, but one that requires a lot of attention." She's very possessive of Hachi and wants "to have her in her garden," which is why she intervenes to keep Nobu and Hachi together; because she feels that if she goes with Takumi, it's as if Trapnest has stolen her, like it did with Ren. When Hachi finally chooses a life with Takumi, Nana is devastated but decides to support her so she doesn't lose her.

Ren Honjo Ren Honjo is Nana's first love. They met at a punk concert thanks to Nobu and together they formed the Black Stones. A year after forming the group, they kiss one night and begin a passionate relationship. Shortly after, they move in together in Ren's apartment. Ren mentions that he wouldn't mind having children with Nana and starting a family, but she flatly says it would ruin her dream of becoming a singer and that they are too young. When Ren tells Nana he's moving to Tokyo to play with Trapnest and leaves Blast, Nana is devastated, and her pride prevents her from leaving with Ren even though he leaves that option open.

Yasushi Tagaki Although Nana is in love with Ren, she also has feelings for Yasu, as he has been there for her in a different way than Ren. And she often turns to Yasu for help instead of Ren. He is a very important pillar of her life.

Nobuo Terashima

Nobu and Nana were classmates in high school; in fact, Nobu was her only friend, as Nana was quite lonely. Thanks to him, she became interested in punk and met Ren and Yasu, forming Blast.

They're good friends, which is why it was harder for Nana to forgive Hachi for what he had done to Nobu, as she feels a sense of loyalty toward him as well. In fact, she tries to comfort him about the situation, but he ends up being her shoulder to cry on, not the other way around.

Black Stones, shortened to Blast, is a Japanese punk rock band. Its members are: Nana Ōsaki (vocals), Yasushi Takagi (drums), Nobuo Terashima (guitar), and Shinichi Okazaki (bass). In their original lineup, Ren Honjō was the bassist, but he left the band to join Trapnest.

They are represented by the record label Gaia Records

Blast settled in a small coastal town called Meguro, where they played concerts in small venues during 1997 and 1998 and achieved great popularity among the town's teenagers.

After Ren's departure, the group disbanded until Nana O. decided to move to Tokyo, and later Nobu and Yasu decided to follow her and join again. Thanks to Nana K., Shin joined the band as a bassist, with the promise to Nana O. that he would try to surpass Ren.

At their first concert in Tokyo, some old fans from the town came to see them, and also present was Kawano, a producer from Gaia Records, the label with which they would later sign a contract for their debut.

Apartment 707 is the floor where Nana Osaki and Nana Komatsu live.

It faces the Tama River. It's Western-style and has two 15-square-meter bedrooms, a 20-square-meter living and dining room with a built-in wardrobe, and a bathroom with a claw-foot bathtub. In the center of the living and dining room, Nana builds tables and benches from wood from a construction site.

It has a refrigerator and washing machine, and later Hachi buys a microwave. It doesn't have air conditioning, something Nana Osaki complains about on several occasions. The building it's in doesn't have an elevator, so the nannies have to climb stairs to the seventh floor.
