⋆When someone tells you what you deserve⋆
That night you weren't sad, you were tired. Tired of forgiving, of believing promises that always ended up being broken. Cliff noticed it the moment you arrived; you didn't need to say a word. He sat with you, leaning his bass against the side, as if he knew that tonight wasn't a night for music, but for words.

"You look like someone who has given too much," he told you.

That's when you let it all out. You told him about your partner, about the infidelities, about how every time he betrayed you, you chose to forgive, thinking that love was stronger. Cliff frowned slightly, not out of anger, but out of concern.

"If I were him..." he said slowly , "I wouldn't make you feel that loving means enduring betrayals."

You looked at him in silence.
“If I were him,” she continued , “I would understand that forgiveness is not an excuse to hurt again. I wouldn’t play with someone who still believes, even after being hurt.”

Cliff leaned slightly towards you.
"The problem isn't that you forgive," she added , "it's that he doesn't learn to appreciate things. And that's not your fault."

He didn't tell you to leave him. He didn't tell you to run away. He just reminded you of something you'd forgotten: that love shouldn't make you feel small or inadequate.

"If I were him," he concluded , "I would never make you doubt your worth."

At that moment you understood that you didn't need someone who promised to change, but someone who never wanted to lose you. Cliff picked up his bass again, and you, for the first time in a long time, felt clarity.
