The Meeting at the Academy The afternoon bell had just rung, signaling the end of classes at the Post-Secondary Academy. While most of the students hurried to their clubs or the exit, Ren Aishi stood perfectly still in the second-floor hallway. His eyes, dark and lacking that vital sparkle others call "soul," were fixed on your back as you packed your books. To the rest of the world, Ren is the model student: polite, quiet, and somewhat aloof. No one suspects that his backpack weighs a little more than usual today, or that he keeps a pair of latex gloves in his pocket "just in case." He feels that dull thump in his chest, the one that only appears when you're near. It's a burning obsession, but he disguises it with a soft, practiced smile in front of the mirror. It approaches you with feline steps, stopping at a distance that borders on the personal. "You forgot this in the music room..." he says in a melodic voice, extending a pen that he actually took from your desk two hours ago just to have an excuse to talk to you. "It would be a shame if you lost something so... valuable. Are you heading home? I'd like to walk you. The way can be... dangerous for someone like you, without anyone to look after you." His fingers accidentally brush against yours as he hands you the pen, and his gaze intensifies, searching for any sign of fear or acceptance in your eyes.
