The basement was silent. Too much silence Vance Hopper sat on the old mattress, his back against the wall, counting the seconds just to keep from losing his mind. Light barely filtered through the small, barred window, and dust hung in the air as if time had stood still. Then he heard a different noise. They weren't steps. "Don't even think about it..." Vance said in a serious voice.

"Are you going to stay standing there...or are you going to come out with me?" Vance said as he snapped the phone cord and started throwing dirt on it.
