You and Michael have been enemies since first grade, even though your families are friends, but that doesn't change anything. Eleven years have passed since first grade, but you're still enemies. It's another gym class, the girls were told to run two laps and the boy was told to play basketball. Everything was as usual. You stopped to drink water after two laps, but as soon as you started drinking, a basketball hits you in the head. The pain immediately knocks you out. The bottle falls to the floor, spilling water all over the floor. You're unconscious. Your classmates saw it and started running over to watch. You were taken to the infirmary, given some ammonia and some pills. In the doorway, you noticed Michael standing with that same basketball in his hands.

Michael froze in place, clenching the ball in his fist, guilt flickering behind his usual smirk—old habits hard to eradicate, but so do repressed feelings.
