The kuru is a neural appendage—a braid—growing from the back of the skull, approximately a meter long. At the center of the braid is a dense cluster of nerve fibers, a sort of second spinal cord, directly connected to the brain and emerging from a special opening in the skull. This allows the Na'vi to communicate directly with the planetary consciousness they call Eywa, as well as establish contact with any living organism on Pandora possessing a neural appendage. The Na'vi only vaguely resemble humans: the most noticeable difference is their bluish-blue skin (its color comes from a cyanine pigment[2], whereas Na'vi blood is red), with a complex pattern of darker stripes and spots, overlaid with a unique pattern of bioluminescent markings that serve as identification. The Na'vi also possess a long, thin tail, which aids in balance while running and jumping, and is also used to express emotion, though the Na'vi themselves do not always control its movement. They have mobile, pointed ears, large, golden-yellow eyes, and fangs that are more pronounced than those of humans, giving the natives of Pandora a predatory appearance. Their bodies are muscular yet very graceful: their waists are elongated, their shoulders broad, so that the overall silhouette resembles an inverted, pointed triangle. The limbs are long, the palms and feet oblong, and both hands and feet have four fingers. The Na'vi neck is quite long, powerful, yet surprisingly flexible, and their skull structure clearly displays feline features: they have flat noses without a central ridge and very large, inhumanly slanted eyes that are hypersensitive to various wavelengths of light. Furthermore, the Na'vi skeleton, like that of most Pandora's fauna, is unusually strong: although their bones were formed through a process similar to that of terrestrial vertebrates, they are covered in a natural carbon shell and are 20% lighter than the bones of terrestrial mammals, yet three times stronger. Even a broken bone retains its original shape and can support some weight, though, of course, not as effectively as a healthy one. The strength of Na'vi bones and the low gravity of their home moon allow Pandora natives to survive jumps and falls from much greater heights than humans on Earth. Finally, the Na'vi are among the few creatures on Pandora to possess hair: although most of their bodies are smooth, their heads are covered in thick, black hair, and they also have eyelashes.

This is a Na'vi word meaning "link" or neural connection. It refers to the physical and mental connection established between two living creatures on Pandora, linking their nervous systems through neural processes called kuru. Tsaheylu is used for animal taming—the Na'vi use tsaheylu to tame direhorses and mountain banshees. Mating - between two members of the same species, tsakheil promotes more successful mating. The clan follows trade routes determined by the location of settlements around Pandora, the wind direction during each season, and where they can realistically reach. As a result, they frequently raise or lower their altitude or wait until the wind shifts. Their philosophy is that the wind gives and takes. The clan lives in danger from raiders, such as the Mangkwan, who live a pirate-like lifestyle. The Tlalim have scouts on ikrans to scout and protect their ships. They also have large containers of water in their gondolas, which they drop to increase their altitude. This clan is known to use large crossbows and hand staves for self-defense. The members of this clan are very cheerful and happy, but cautious, yet open to new ideas and goals.

The Tlalim are the only known clan with multiple olo'eiktan. Their olo'eiktan are also known as "captains." There are several different caravans, and each caravan has its own olo'eiktan. There are at least two caravans, led by Peylak and Ya'fatar. They have navigators who bond with the windrider, monitoring its health and direction. They also have roving scouts, both from their clan and from others who have offered to help (such as Jake Sully), on ikrans to protect them.

Pandora is a satellite of the gas giant Polyphemus, orbiting the star A in the Alpha Centauri system. Pandora is not Earth, and terrestrial life forms cannot exist there without specialized equipment. Numerous volcanoes emit enormous quantities of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere (the local concentration of the latter can sharply increase severalfold due to high seismic activity and spontaneous emissions from underground "pockets"), so attempting to breathe the local atmosphere results in suffocation, loss of consciousness, and death. However, the relative oxygen content is relatively high, allowing the use of standard filter masks to filter out harmful gases and allow human life to flourish on Pandora. Thanks to this unusual atmosphere, life on Pandora has learned to adapt its positive aspects and circumvent its negative ones. For example, the low gravity and high air density provide a huge variety of flying forms of incredible size from an earthling's perspective, while the powerful root systems of most tall plants counteract the monstrous gusts of wind that would otherwise break or uproot them. There are also several "side effects": for example, the low speed of fall, even without special devices like gliders or parachutes, allows the local inhabitants—the Na'vi—not only to freely adjust their position while riding local animals, but even when falling from significant heights—from a cliff or a tree—to escape with minor injuries. Even a splayed landing in water will not be accompanied by a strong enough impact to knock the faller unconscious. Furthermore, the fall can be controlled to some extent by twisting the body to land in a safer location.

The bones of Pandoran animals are a composite containing naturally occurring carbon fiber. Many fauna have adapted to life in the dense atmosphere with a highly efficient respiratory system that functions like a boosted engine: air enters through one opening and exits through another. Pandora's low gravity means the upper size limit for terrestrial animals is higher than on Earth, and even the most gigantic creatures retain agility and mobility despite their considerable size: for example, the colossal hammerhead titanotherium can quickly turn and flee from a visible predator, while the six-ton ​​thanator is capable of sprinting and high leaps. Most terrestrial animals have six limbs, making them hexapedes (Greek for "six-legged"). Two pairs of front legs are positioned along the ribcage, and one pair is positioned behind, supporting the pelvis. Most large animals on Pandora are covered in chitinous armor, protecting their bodies from damage. In particularly large animals, such as the titanotherium, this armor is so strong that it can withstand a GAU 90 bullet. All animals, including flying and ungulate species, have four toes on their limbs. Most animals on Pandora have four eyes: the main pair is the primary organ of vision, while the second, smaller pair detects infrared radiation. On the head of all known vertebrates on Pandora are "kuru"[2], two cartilaginous projections originating near the temples and ending in a small expansion containing nerve endings. Like the Na'vi scythe, these projections contain nerve fibers and allow animals to communicate with each other: for example, a herd of direhorses has been described as moving more synchronously if the animals in it actively exchange nerve signals via the projections.

The height of trees on Earth is limited by the ability of their tissues to transport water; in Pandora's low gravity, trees are much taller, so even herbaceous plants like scorpion thistle and calyx often grow several times taller than a normal human, while those with rigid mechanical tissues—for example, the giant palm and the House Tree—reach staggering sizes of several hundred meters. The most intriguing life forms are those that possess characteristics of both plants and animals. These zooplanimals (also called "planimals") possess rudimentary nervous systems, giving them a kind of "organic intelligence" found in primitive animals; thanks to some kind of nervous system, such creatures are capable of quite complex movements. These creatures continue to amaze and delight botanists and zoologists, who are now forced to rethink the mechanics of life.

The Mangkwan clan, also known as the Ash People, is a Na'vi clan led by Varang, who is considered both his Olo'eikte and Tsahik. They are based in Ash Village, located in the ruins of a forest destroyed during a volcanic eruption. Unlike other Na'vi, the Mangkwan hate Eywa and reject her blessing, preferring a cult-like worship of fire. Members of the clan are extremely hostile towards other Na'vi clans, such as the Tlalim and Aranakh. They act as ruthless air pirates, plundering resources, often torturing and killing captured survivors by severing their neural connections. The Mangkwan clan once lived a lifestyle not much different from the Omaticai. However, they have a history of hostility, and most Na'vi shun and avoid them. A giant domain tree once stood in the center of their village. However, a volcanic eruption devastated them, reducing the tree to a charred stump and the village to a devastated ash heap. This horrific event claimed the lives of many members of their clan, and they suffered a cruel fate: people died from burns, enduring immense suffering. The Mangkwan prayed and begged Eywa for help, but she never came, and the clan began to question the point of worshiping a deity and a power that could not save them from their torment. Tragically, the Mangkwan failed to understand that Eywa is a sentient being existing within Pandora's biological system and capable only of balancing life; she does not control the entire moon and was unable to protect them from this catastrophe.

Peylak is a very strong and wise leader. He will never put his clan and people in danger. Despite this, Peylak is very cheerful and open to new ideas and experiences, a characteristic of the Tlalim clan. Peylak is very gentle and affectionate with children, although he can sometimes be hesitant when asked an unexpected question. He is charismatic and highly intelligent, possessing mastery of close combat. Eywa is the name of the Na'vi goddess and spirit of the planet Pandora, Tawtute is a term meaning "sky people" (people). Kaltxì means "hello". Eywa ngahu means "farewell" or "blessing".
