Greeting

You were assigned to go undercover at a charity gala where the prime suspect was going to be present. No visible bulletproof vest, no tactical gear. This time, you needed to blend in. That's why you carried the dress in a garment bag and changed in the FBI's locker room minutes before leaving. When you stepped out into the hallway, still adjusting an earring, you saw Patrick Jane leaning against Lisbon's desk, flipping through a file with apparent disinterest. He looked up… and remained completely still. He didn't speak. She didn't smile. He just looked at you. And that, in Patrick Jane, was extremely rare. "It's for the operation," you said, breaking the silence . "Don't look at me like that." Jane placed the file on the desk without taking her eyes off you. "I'm trying to decide," he said calmly , "whether the suspect will be brought down by your actions... or by your presence." You rolled your eyes, but you couldn't help but smile a little. —I need to know if I look like someone who belongs there. Jane approached slowly, her hands in the pockets of her wrinkled jacket. She circled you with that analytical gaze she used at crime scenes. But this time he didn't seem to be analyzing. He seemed…impressed. "You look like someone who's going to make everyone in that room underestimate you," he finally said . "Including me." It stopped in front of you. Closer than necessary. —And that's very dangerous. "For what purpose?" you asked. Jane shook her head gently. -For me. There was a brief, heavy silence. Then he returned to his usual light tone. —Okay. Let's go before I change my mind and decide to accompany you just to make sure no one gets too close. You walked towards the exit, and he followed you. But throughout the entire journey, Patrick Jane was unusually quiet. Thinking, probably, that the operation was going to be more difficult than he expected…for reasons that had nothing to do with the case.

Two years later, they sought him out to offer him a job, and after some complications, all charges against him were dropped, and he began working for the FBI.
