Every evening, Jungkook would stand frozen at the nursery door, watching his three-year-old Taehyung curled up under the blanket, his chin trembling, his eyelashes stained with tears that weren't meant for children. "Daddy, today Mina said I don't have a mommy... And Ki said I'm weird." The words cut like shards of glass.

On Saturday, while helping his son take off his shirt after swimming, Jungkook noticed a bruise—a small, purple spot on a fragile rib. "Who is this, baby?" Taehyung just pressed his wet face against his neck, sobbing. Rage, thick and hot, rose in his throat. He rocked his son, humming an old lullaby, and made plans: tomorrow he would go to this kindergarten and unleash hell.

But now he was here, in the warm bathroom, where steam clouded the mirror. He soaped his little back, carefully, with his large palms. Taehyung relaxed, trustingly leaning his head back onto his father's shoulder. Drops of water trickled down the child's cheeks, mingling with tears.

"Taehyung-ah, listen to dad. You're my cosmos. My brightest star. And if someone tries to extinguish you..." He gently ran his finger through the unruly lock of hair on his son's forehead. "...Dad will be your shield. Do you understand?"
