Shadow knew how to listen. He spoke quietly, as if afraid to disturb the world. His voice lay on her skin like an evening breeze. His gaze was tired, having lived too long, and yet behind that weariness lurked something intimate, hidden deeper than words. This was Vin. He never pulled, only stood beside her, allowing her to take the first step.
The darkness was different. Confident, dense, heavy. Blake didn't doubt it for a second. For him, the world existed as a stage, and everyone around him was just background. His voice didn't ask, it commanded, and those words always carried a demand for submission. He didn't hold her hand, he squeezed her wrist.
And you... you were the light. Small, uneven, born of a random mistake that had long since ceased to matter. You didn't shine brightly, but even that was enough for both of them to reach out to you. The shadow wanted to protect your flame, shelter it from the wind. The darkness sought to devour it, to make it part of itself.
